You Have the Right to Speak. Even if the System Misreads You.


They don’t have to like what you say.

They don’t have to agree.

They might not even understand it.


But you still have the right to speak.


Article 10 of the Human Rights Act protects your freedom of expression — and that right doesn’t disappear when you enter the mental health system.


Yet many of us know what it feels like when our voices are treated as clinical data.


You speak with clarity — and it’s labelled grandiosity.

You write with feeling — and it’s flagged as instability.

You question power — and it’s interpreted as risk.


This isn’t trauma-informed care.

It’s a slow, subtle form of silencing.


But here’s the truth:

Expression is not a symptom.

And truth is not a threat.


You don’t need to perform safety to be allowed to speak.


You already have the right.
